NOW AND AT THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH
End-of-Life Moral Decision-Making for Catholics
One of the most important distinctions for end-of-life decision-making is between what is morally obligatory and what is morally optional. Advances in medical technologies bring with them new means of curing disease and living longer, healthier lives than ever before. But they can also be the source of heightened anxiety about a prolonged, painful and expensive dying process that may not be necessary. The hard choices about the use of medical technology at the end of life may be made easier if we take the time to express our wishes about end-of-life treatments before illness strikes.
Come join us for a panel question/answer discussion on these topics sponsored by the St. Vincent de Paul Respect Life Committee. Panelists include David Kaminskas, M.D., FACC, cardiologist with Lutheran Medical Group; Fr. Royce Gregerson, specialist in Moral Theology; and Jackie Stevens, NP at Heartland Homecare and Hospice. Join us Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Vincent de Paul Spiritual Center (1502 E Wallen Rd). Light refreshments will be served. Saint Francis invites you to a free public lecture The Department of Philosophy and Theology and the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Saint Francis invite you to a free public lecture as part of the 2016-2017 Philosophy/Theology Lecture Series. Dr. Lance Richey, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Professor of Theology, will give a lecture “Polkas and Masses: Catholicism and the German-Russian Immigrant Experience in Strasburg, North Dakota” on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 7 p.m. on the campus of the University of Saint Francis, Brookside Ballroom, 2701 Spring Street, Fort Wayne, IN.
While best known as the hometown of television legend Lawrence Welk, Strasburg, North Dakota possesses a rich religious and ethnic history. Dr. Lance Richey, Professor of Theology, will explore the dynamic interchange of the German-Russian heritage of the people and their strong Catholic faith. Their history of “Polkas and Masses” is both unique and emblematic of the American immigrant experience.
