Weekly Announcements

The Christmas Praeconium “At the Office of Prime, in cathedral chapters and monasteries, the announcement of tomorrow’s feast [the Nativity of Our Lord] is made with unusual  solemnity. The lector sings, to a magnificent chant, the following lesson from the martyrology. All remain standing during it, until the lector comes to the word Bethlehem, at which all genuflect, and continue in that posture until the glad tidings are told.” --Dom Gueranger The Eighth of the Calends of January  (Dec. 25) The year from the creation of the world, when in the beginning God created Heaven and Earth, five thousand one hundred and ninety-nine: from the deluge, the year two thousand nine hundred and fifty-seven: from the birth of Abraham, the year two thousand and fifteen: from Moses and the going out of the people of Israel from Egypt, the year one thousand five hundred and ten: from David’s being anointed king, the year one thousand and thirty two: in the sixty fifth week according to the prophecy of Daniel: in the one hundred and ninety-fourth Olympiad: from the building of the city of Rome, the year seven hundred and fifty-two: in the forty second year of the reign of Octavian Augustus: the whole world being in peace: in the sixth age of the world: Jesus Christ, the eternal God, and Son of the eternal Father, wishing to consecrate this world by His most merciful coming, being conceived of the Holy Ghost, and nine months since His conception having passed, in Bethlehem of Juda, is born of the Virgin Mary, being made man: The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ According to the Flesh. [Please note that by the numbers of years mentioned the Catholic Church by no means intends to dogmatically define that the earth is approximately 7000 years old. However, as the milestone  events mentioned come closer to our own time, those same numbers of years become more and more accurate, until no one disputes them as historical facts. By this we are led to understand that the Son of God did come into this world at a definite point in human history. This is a fact which cannot be denied.]

Scrip We made $45.32 in Scrip this week. Over the past 6 weeks we have earned a total of $124.45. Please take a look at the order forms at the front entrance to see if there are places that you frequent. If so, just fill in the amount you would like to purchase. The form will let you know the percentage the Parish receives from your Scrip purchase. Please submit the form with a check by dropping it in the collection basket. For any questions please call Kim at the office 260-744-2519. All orders must be prepaid and will be placed on Tuesday of each week. Your orders will then come to the office and you will be called (please leave a phone number)  when they arrive to pick them up at the office or at church the following Sunday. Due to processing costs, in order to make a few dollars we have to put in an order of $300 or more. Consequently, if we do not get enough people using Scrip we may not be able to order every week.
St. Vincent de Paul “Brown Bag Collection” Every Friday the Sacred Heart St Vincent de Paul Society has a food bank that is open to anyone living in the Fort Wayne area. We currently serve an average of 110 families each Friday. We will be starting a new project called “Brown Bag Collection” which we hope will help in filling our shelves with food. Every 2nd Sunday someone will be at the front entrance of the church with a brown bag to pass out. You will have a month to fill it with nonperishable foods. Just bring it back with you the next 2nd Sunday of the month and we will exchange it with another empty brown bag. This gives everyone an opportunity to help feed the poor in our city and work on our corporal works of mercy. We will start this new project on January 8th. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
