OFFERTORY (cont.)   (Taken from Notes Made at the Conferences of Dom Prosper Guéranger).   Another prayer follows the Offering of the Chalice, which is recited by the Priest at the middle of the Altar, having his hands joined and his head somewhat inclined: In spiritu humilitatis et in animo contrito suscipiamur a te, Domine, et sic fiat hoc sacrificium in conspectu tuo hodie ut placeat tibi, Domine Deus. In a spirit of humility and in contrite heart, we beg of Thee, O Lord, that we may be received by Thee, and that our Sacrifice may be such, this day in Thy sight, that it may be acceptable to Thee, O Lord, our God. This is a general Prayer placed here by Holy Church to complete the Sacred Rites. The words are those of the Three Children in the Fiery Furnace, as related in the Book of Daniel (iii. 39,40.)   Next follows a very important Benediction; the Holy Ghost must needs be invoked that He may deign to come down and operate in the holy Sacrifice; the Priest does so in these words: Veni, Sanctificator, Omnipotens aeterne Deus, et benedic (saying this word, he makes the sign of the cross on all the things offered) hoc sacrificium in tuo nomini praeparatum.  [Come, O Sanctifier, Almighty and Eternal God, and bless + this sacrifice prepared for the glory of Your holy Name.]   As it is the Holy Ghost Himself who operates the change of the Bread and Wine into the Body and Blood of Our Lord, in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, it is right that this Divine Spirit should be mentioned in the course of the Sacrifice. Holy Church here invokes Him by this Prayer, in order that as He produced Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Womb of Mary, so He would deign to produce Him again here upon our Altar. She expresses this her request in the form of craving a Blessing: Bless, says she, this Sacrifice, that is to say, make it fruitful, so that it may be pleasing to the Divine Majesty.
MASS REQUESTS If you desire a Mass to be celebrated for a particular intention, please place the offering along with the specific intention in writing in an envelope clearly marked Mass Intention and place it in the collection basket.  For individual intentions, make sure to specify whether the person is living or deceased. Alternatively, you can approach the pastor or bring or mail the request to the church. We do not accept phoned-in or emailed requests. Everything must be together at the time the request is made. Please note that Mass stipends are NOT tax-deductible according to IRS regulations.

REGINA CAELI CHOIR   The new choir season is fast approaching and we would like to send an invitation to anyone considering being a part of this vital ministry.  As you know, a choir is necessary in order to have a High Mass, and Sacred Heart is in need of new choir members, especially men. Singing in the choir is an excellent way to participate in the Mass. The only requirement is the ability to match pitch. Practice times are Wednesdays after the 6:00 pm evening Mass and Sundays at 9:00 am before the morning Mass. Occasional Saturday practices will be required for major Feast Days and new members. If traveling distance is a problem in  attending a practice, special arrangements can be made. Our first practice is August 9th at 6:45 pm. Remember, as St. Augustine said, He who sings well, prays twice. If you are interested, please contact the choir director, Teresa Smith, at 260-565-4449,  or teresalsmith2000@yahoo.com.
St Vincent de Paul Collection There will be a special collection next Sunday,  July 30th for the SVdP Society. This collection helps those in need in our area with their utilities and also with our food bank. Please use the Special Collections Envelope at the entrances if you would like to be acknowledged for your contribution. At the top of the Envelope mark SVdP Society along with your name. Thank You!
St. Vincent de Paul “Brown Bag Collection” Please continue to help our food bank here at Sacred Heart by taking a brown bag and filling it with non perishable foods. Every Friday the  Sacred Heart St Vincent de Paul Society has a food bank that is open to anyone living in the Fort Wayne area. We currently serve an average of 110 families. Please bring the filled bag back by the 2nd Sunday of each month and we will exchange it with another empty brown bag. This gives everyone an  opportunity to help feed the poor in our city and work on our corporal works of mercy. Thank you in advance to all those who help us keep our food bank going.
Scrip   Scrip is a very easy way to help the parish financially without increasing your Sunday contribution. Please take a look at the order forms to see if there are vendors that you frequent. If so, just fill in the amount you would like to purchase. You will receive a gift card back that can be used any time and never expires. Please submit the form with a check by dropping it in the collection basket. For any questions call the office at 260-744-2519. All orders must be prepaid and will be placed on Monday of each week. Due to processing costs, in order to make a few dollars we have to have a combined total of all orders come to $400 or more. Your small order can help to reach this threshold.
