OFFERTORY (cont.)   (Taken from Notes Made at the Conferences of Dom Prosper Guéranger).   The four Prayers of the Offertory are not very ancient; it was formerly left to the option of the different churches, to choose their own formula of prayer for this moment; the Canon alone has undergone no local changes; it has always been the very same everywhere. Since Pope Pius V issued his Missal, which is the one now in use, nothing may be altered in any of the formulae accepted therein by him; but the variety of epoch from which the several prayers date, explains the vast difference observable in the Latin of their composition and in that of the Canon, which is far more beautiful. The Priest having finished the Oblation Prayer, makes the sign of the cross with the Paten and places the host on the Corporal. This form of the cross expresses the identity existing between the Sacrifice of the Mass and that of Calvary. Next, the Deacon puts Wine into the Chalice, and the Sub-Deacon approaches to fulfil his office, which consists in putting the water into this same Chalice; this act is the highest of all his functions. The prayer which accompanies this ceremony is very ancient; it dates back as far as the first ages of the Church, and indeed it is easy to see that the Latin was a spoken language at the time it was composed. In it is strongly brought before us what is the importance, what the dignity of the Water here used in the Holy Sacrifice. Why is Water put in the Chalice? Because, according to Tradition, Our Lord Himself when instituting the Holy Eucharist, mixed Water with the Wine, as the abstemious are wont to do, and the Church continues to observe this custom. She avails herself of this opportunity to speak to us in wonderful language, unfolding to us sublimest mysteries.

June 29 -- Feast of SS Peter and Paul To celebrate the principal patron of the FSSP, we will have a High Mass this Thursday, June 29, at 7 PM. There will be no morning Mass that day. A reminder that all FSSP and Confraternity members can gain a plenary indulgence on the usual conditions that day.
25th Anniversary -- Chris and Missy Hamel Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Hamel, who celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on June 27. Next Sunday, July 2, we will have the special blessing for the occasion after High Mass. Any married couples approaching their 25th or 50th wedding anniversaries are encouraged to contact the church to arrange for this blessing. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Hamel!
Thank You A big thanks to those who provided the canopy for the Eucharistic procession last Sunday: to an anonymous donor for making the canopy itself and to Mr. Cletus Rumschlag for fabricating the poles used to carry the canopy. We could not have had a Blessed Sacrament procession without this, and now the parish will have a beautiful canopy for years to come.  May God reward you!
St. Vincent de Paul “Brown Bag Collection” Please continue to help our food bank here at Sacred Heart by taking a brown bag and filling it with non perishable foods. Every Friday the Sacred Heart St Vincent de Paul Society has a food bank that is open to anyone living in the Fort Wayne area. We currently serve an average of 110 families. Please bring the filled bag back by the 2nd Sunday of each month and we will exchange it with another empty brown bag. This gives everyone an  opportunity to help feed the poor in our city and work on our corporal works of mercy. Thank you in advance to all those who help us keep our food bank going.
Scrip   Scrip is a very easy way to help the parish financially without increasing your Sunday contribution. Please take a look at the order forms to see if there are vendors that you frequent. If so, just fill in the amount you would like to purchase. You will receive a gift card back that can be used any time and never expires. Please submit the form with a check by dropping it in the collection basket. For any questions call the office at 260-744-2519. All orders must be prepaid and will be placed on Monday of each week. Due to processing costs, in order to make a few dollars we have to have a combined total of all orders come to $400 or more. Your small order can help to reach this threshold.
First Saturday Just a reminder, this week will be the First Saturday of the month. The Blessed Mother has requested we make the 5 First Saturdays in reparation for sin. The reward for  fulfilling this request is far greater than the effort to complete this devotion. Please join us. Saturday - Rosary 8:25 am. Confessions 8:30 and Mass at 9 am.
New Table & Chairs The Rosary Sodality was able to purchase one table and eight chairs. We are asking for donations for new tables and chairs at the   potlucks and coffee & donut functions. We will purchase these as the funds come in. It cost $365.29 for a table and eight chairs. We only need $165 more and we will be able to purchase two more tables and 16 chairs. Thank you everyone for your support!
